Sunday 25th June - Buffet and AGM |
Whinstone View on Reunion Sunday after Meeting , damp if not exactly soggy! What a difference from last year when OS and friends sat outside in glorious warm sunshine while lunch was being made ready.
The pre-lunch get-together therefore moved into the marquee |
 |
| Sunday buffet was partaken by around seventy-five old scholars and friends. Whinstone View presented a pleasant variation and choice, plus a vegetarian option, enjoyed by all. |
 |
There was time to talk and to meet friends before the AGM started at 3:00 pm |
 |
 |
| Joyce Spinks had been an enormous help to the Committee in researching detail to help shape future Reunions. The Committee expressed their appreciation with this bouquet of flower. |
Pictured here are Suzanne Potter (Morgan), and Pat Frosini (Scaife). They had not met before but Pat remembered knitting bootees, when she was at school, for Suzanne's birth. Suzanne is the daughter of the late Joyce (Dickinson) and Clifford Morgan. |

Cordelia Stamp (Mundahl), at School from 1936-39, runs a publishing business in Whitby. She specialises in the life of Captain Cook and related subjects and brought a selection of titles to the Sunday part of the Reunion to be sold for the benefit of Ayton Old Scholars' Association. The proceeds amounted to £50 for which many thanks Cordelia. |
Before the AGM got underway, what was left of the 70th Birthday group posed for a photograph - a smaller version of which appeared on page one. Here is bigger image to help remember a very special weekend. If any OS would like a larger version of this photo please e-mail Dick Dennis and one will be off to you. |

Diz Dexter - AOSA Chairman - conducted the AGM in her usual efficient and friendly manner.
After the usual silence to remember old scholars no longer with us, Diz introducing President Martyn Gaudie , who gave his Presidential Address. The balance of the Meeting was completed, including election of Officers and Committee for the coming year.
Jen Summerfield (Smith) proposed Tessa Snowdon (Greenwell) as President Elect for 2007-08.
There was a further discussion on the future of Reunions. The AGM were told of the wonderful response to the Appeal which went out with the 2006 Annual Report, which at the time of the AGM totally over £3,600 and that this would balance Reunion losses for another three years. The Meeting agreed that the 2007 Reunion should be at Whinstone View but that there should be further discussion on the future of Reunions at the 2007 AGM. |
Martyn Gaudie's Presidential Address - was a fascinating, and often amusing account of life from his early days at Ayton and beyond to farming and his continuing connections with Ayton Friends and the Association.
All at the AGM enjoyed Martyn's address and the text is online with this Reunion Report. Click here to go direct. |
| And a big Thank-you..... |
There are always so many involved in the organisation of Reunions. The Committee collectively put in a lot of work each year but the main load always falls on our Reunion Co-ordinator - Jen Summerfield (Smith) who negotiated the 1001 details with Whinstone View and the marquee suppliers, plus - with William Pine wearing his Treasurer's hat - getting all the Reunion literature together, ticket distribution and all the rest. Reunions would not happen without all this work behind the scenes.
Many thanks Jen, William and all those who make Reunions such a success year on year. |
| From Dick Dennis - your webmaster - a personal thanks to: Gill Jackson; Harry Snalam, Mike Adam, Peter Moore-Robinson, James Slater, Martin Lloyd, George Hetherington, and especially William Pine, for the photographs they took - their contribution has been a huge help in compiling this Photo Report. |
| A really big thanks though to all the Old Scholars who come back to Ayton Reunions - many of whom journeyed from countries many 1,000s of miles away, and others from continental Europe plus those from UK needing to make arrangements for a weekend away. It is really appreciated so please keep coming back. |
| As we all well remember, next year will be the 10th anniversary of School's closure, still very sad, but a cause for celebration is that School lives on through the Old Scholars' Association, the Annual Report, website and Reunions, providing a forum for friendships forged at School to live on and flourish.
Reunion dates for 2007 are 23rd and 24th June at Whinstone View so let's see a big return of '97 Leavers in addition to all the regulars.
If you are a '97 Leaver and would like to join your own group mailing list e-mail your name, address and years at School. We'll get back soon. |
