President, Chairman, Old Scholars and Friends.

I am pleased to present the Accounts of the Association for the year ended 31st March 1998.

There are four matters I want to draw to your attention.

  1.       I have not made any provision for the next Handbook (due in five years time) - we still have £623 in reserve from previous provisions after paying £333 for the Handbook published this year.

  2.      You will notice that we have agreed to pay £200 per annum to the Ayton Meeting for the use of the two Meeting Houses at our Reunion and meetings of the Executive Committee.

  3.       We have received from the School the second and sadly the last payment in respect of the “Membership for All” Scheme, that is, £2800 for the Life Membership for the 28 ‘normal’ 1997 Leavers.

  4.       In the past we have transferred an annual ‘per capita sum from the Life Fund to the General Fund to pay the costs of the Life Members and usually ended up with a sufficient surplus to help the School in small ways.

Since we will no longer have this call upon us it would seem better to transfer just enough to pay expenses and leave a small surplus. This would have the added benefit of prolonging the life of the Life Fund to provide for the many Life Members over the coming years. Consequently, I have transferred £600 this year compared to £1,197 last year.

At the end of the year we have £6,868 in the General Fund and £12,319 in the Life Fund.

Can I again thank all the District Secretaries for their help in collecting the annual Subscriptions and Eric Rodham for his work as Auditor.

Clifford Weschenfelder
Hon. Treasurer.
