I have vague memories of Mr. Morgan telling us that the shortest budget report in Parliament was given by Mr. Gladstone, who stood up and said, “Income tax will be sixpence in the pound,” and then sat down again. Well, I feel a bit like that, as there is very little to report this year.

The Executive Committee met in October, and we discussed the 2000 Reunion. All agreed that it had been a great success. There was some discussion as to how we might save on expenses, we heard a report on the progress of the Meeting House, and Dick kept us informed about the website.

The meeting in March was much the same, except that Tessa reported on all her work in organising this weekend, and how she had managed to save some expenses. We were kept up to date on the Meeting House alterations and informed of the opening dates. There was a discussion about adding a clause to the Constitution - that will be discussed later – and there could end my report of your committee’s activities BUT may I now bring to your attention item 11 on the agenda, the re-election of officers willing to remain in office. Beside each name are the dates of their terms of service. As you can see, Sue and I will be standing down next year, and Gill and Tessa come to the end of one of their terms of office the following year. For a committee to run smoothly, there really needs to be a slow change of officers. May I appeal to you all to consider giving a small part of your time to the Association, if you possibly can? Do come and talk to us and find out exactly what is involved, before putting your name forward. On that slightly sober note, I hope you all had an enjoyable weekend and that this fine weather lasts for some time, and to say thanks that we weren’t meeting last weekend.

Margaret Carnegie (Wilkinson 1948-55)
