Madam Chairman, Old Scholars, and Friends, I am pleased to present the Accounts for the year ended 31st March, 2000. I want to explain two exceptional items of expenditure (shown on the General Account). Firstly, the Removal of Archives £253.50. A group of us who inspected the Archives (which were stored in a loft above the Meeting House entrance passage and accessible only by a step ladder) decided it would be dangerous and foolish to try to remove all the boxes, files etc by ourselves. We agreed that hiring a removal company would be much more sensible. Hence the cost. Secondly, the Meeting House Appeal postage £222.96. We agreed to help the Ayton Meeting by paying the cost of posting the Appeal literature I hope you will approve these one-off expenses. It is my duty to point out that since we no longer have the free use of the School buildings for our Reunions and have to pay the full commercial cost of meals and refreshments it is unrealistic to expect to make a "profit" at our Reunions as we used to. Reunions could therefore be a drain on our cash balances, but then, what are they for? The Balances are:
